Parachinar airport in Kurram district restored to operational status after long closure

The long-inactive Parachinar Airport in Kurram district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been successfully restored to operational status after remaining non-functional for an extended period.
According to official sources, the airport has been made functional again through coordinated efforts of the Pakistan Army, the Frontier Works Organization (FWO), and the Pakistan Airports Authority.
As part of the restoration process, the Pakistan Army Aviation conducted operational landing and take-off trials on April 26 to evaluate the runway’s readiness and operational safety. These trials were carried out to ensure that the airstrip meets required aviation standards before regular flight operations resume.
Officials confirmed that a total of six successful landing and take-off trials were completed during the assessment phase. The runway and related infrastructure were examined for functionality, durability, and compliance with aviation safety protocols.

Following the evaluation, the airport’s runway was declared fit for operations and aligned with professional aviation standards and high safety requirements.
Authorities stated that the reopening of the airport is expected to significantly improve regional connectivity for the people of Kurram district and surrounding areas, which have faced transportation challenges due to the airport’s prolonged closure.
The restoration is also seen as a positive development for emergency services, logistics support, and potential civilian air travel in the region.
Officials added that further steps will be taken to ensure sustained operations and long-term maintenance of the facility in accordance with national aviation standards.
